The Garden Cottage
The Cottage
The Garden Cottage sits in the grounds of Tor Down House, former home to Nobel Laureate Doris Lessing.
The cottage itself is a traditional, Grade II listed Devon longhouse which has been marvellously renovated into a beautiful thatched, single-storey hideaway, down a private drive on the outskirts of Belstone, 100 yards from open moorland.
Staying Here
A large flag-stoned entrance hall welcomes you with plenty of room for muddy walking boots and pet paraphernalia (dogs are welcome).
On arrival you will be greeted with a generous welcome hamper and useful information pack on local amenities.
The cottage is heated by a biomass boiler with the addition of a substantial fireplace graced with a cosy woodburning stove.
Rooms
Two bedrooms open out of the hallway, one king-sized and one bunk bed room. Both contain wardrobes, a chest of drawers and bedside tables.
The open-plan sitting and dining area is graced with a magnificent oak-beamed ceiling, huge forged chandelier, uneven flagstone floor (with rug), smart TV and cosy window seats to instantly transport you into holiday mode.
A small fitted kitchen (with underfloor heating) leads on from this and a quaint shower room follows.
